What if your birthday is December 25?

Christmas Birthday Considerations
For people born on December 25th, birthdays are often overshadowed or forgotten entirely among the hustle and bustle of Christmas Day. On a day where gifts are traditionally exchanged, being born a Christmas baby can sometimes leave both children and adults feeling neglected or overlooked in favor of the holiday. However, there are plenty of strategies that parents, families, and friends can utilize to make December 25th special.

Establish a Theme
Folks born on December 25th are usually tired of reindeer, snowmen, and candy canes encroaching upon their birthday festivities. What does the celebrant enjoy? Consider a themed party that isn't winter-centric. Whether it's a costume party, a wine tasting, or a sewing circle, choose a theme near and dear to the individual, not the season.

Create a Party Space
Resist the temptation to host the birthday celebration in the same room festooned with tinsel, the bedecked tree, and the statuettes of Santa. Use a finished basement, a spare room, or the kitchen as the focal point of the party, and use traditional party balloons, streamers, and cake to set the atmosphere. Don't use leftover Christmas gift wrap for birthday gifts, and fight the urge to multi-purpose the holiday flatware, dishes, and platters. Create a space devoid of holiday cheer and full of birthday celebration!

Serve Party Food
Christmas is a holiday known for it's caloric indulgences. Many people spend hours hand-crafting cookies, candies, and other delights for the palate. However, slapping a non-holiday icing on those cookies isn't fooling anyone. To make the guest of honor feel special, serve more party-friendly foods that you see at non-holiday birthday parties, such as meatballs, pizza, cake, and ice cream.

Turn Off Burl Ives
Turn off the carols for the party. Instead, play music that the honoree and guests will enjoy. Keep the volume low enough so that casual conversation can be heard above it, and be sure to rotate through a variety of tunes to keep the energy level up.

No matter when a person is born, their party shouldn't be an afterthought to a holiday. By following these simple tips, a birthday party on Christmas can be individual, fun, and not be crowded out by the Christmas festivities.
