Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar, add eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add half the dry mixture and mix well. Add butter, mix well, then add the flour mixture and mix until smooth. Divide batter between two greased floured 9 "pans and bake for 30 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely.
